Escapade

Escapade Description

For those who have not already seen pictures, let me describe ESCAPADE.  She was built in 1996 by Oyster Marine in Ipswich, England.  She is 55’ long, has a 15’9” beam, draws 6’8”, and has a displacement of 50,000 pounds.  She has a center cockpit and is cutter rigged.  This means she has one mast (71’ tall), and two foresails.  She is designed for shorthanded sailing with all lines leading to the cockpit.  The primary winches are powered, as well as the mainsheet winch.  All sails are roller furling, with the main powered into the mast.  There is also a cruising chute and spinnaker pole.  An inflatable dingy is carried on davits at the stern.  There is a stern boarding platform and a dodger as well as a bimini to provide protection from the sun and weather.  For maneuverability, there is a bow thruster.  She is white and all decks are teak.  In total, she is stunning and unique in appearance, and exudes class.

ESCAPADE has a “raised deck saloon”.  This means that the saloon is higher than on most boats, and is very light and airy inside with seven very large windows.  The whole interior is done in light oak.  There are three sleeping cabins:  the captain’s aft, a guest cabin forward with a double “V” berth, and a starboard guest cabin with two single berths.  All berths can be converted to sea berths with lee cloths.  There are two bathrooms, both with separate shower areas.  A fourth cabin is a work room/utility room.  The galley, aft of the companionway, has a four burner stove, microwave oven and a large refrigerator and separate freezer.  The navigation station is to port along with two individual chairs.

In terms of amenities, ESCAPADE has central air conditioning (3 separate units with reverse heating), a diesel heater with outlets in the salon and aft cabin, a washer/dryer, an LVR (Line Voltage Regulator), universal TV, VCR, CD stereo system, Microwave oven, and a water maker.  She has a Perkins diesel 82 HP engine, and a 9 kW Onan diesel generator.  There is a very large capacity battery bank.  There are tanks for 204 gallons of water and 228 gallons of diesel fuel.

In terms of safety and navigation equipment, ESCAPADE is fully equipped.  She has three VHF radios, three GPS units, radar, SSB radio, Weatherfax, Navtex, Inmarsat-C satellite E-mail, Iridium satellite telephone, GSM cellular telephone, loudhailer, AIS, and a computer/electronic chart navigation system. There is an integrated instrument system, and an autopilot.  The hull construction is solid FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic), with Kevlar added in the bow area and an external lead keel. There are large full-length stringers, and thick bulkheads.  There are two separate watertight compartments forward and she has a superior range of stability.  All recommended safety equipment is aboard including life raft, 406 EPIRB, inflatable life vests, tethers and personal EPIRBs for crew, man over-board recovery gear, and storm weather equipment.
